Dental Bridges & Dental Crowns

A crown will be necessary if your tooth is damaged, decayed or cracked. Crowns are permanent coverings that fit over the natural tooth. General & Cosmetic Dentistry in Seattle typically uses crowns made of porcelain as they look similar to actual teeth. Crowns ultimately realign, reshape and beautify teeth, enhancing the smile aesthetic all the more. Bridges are commonly used dental devices that fill the space where a tooth has been removed. Bridges consist of a filler tooth known as a pontic that connects to adjacent crowns, also known as abutments.

The bridge is bonded in the patient’s mouth so gaps between natural teeth do not lead to tooth shifting, occlusion issues and jaw problems. The addition of dental bridges and crowns will likely take two visits. The first visit is necessary to make a mold of the teeth. This mold is used by a dental lab so your personalized impression can be prepared. The mold usually takes a week or two to be made and returned to our office. You will be fitted with a temporary crown/bridge in the meantime. The next visit removes this treatment crown/bridge so it can be replaced with the permanent crown/bridge.
